Feminism rehabilitated “crone” awhile back, but I’m not sure it became widely respected. My pet peeve is “elderly.” After Larry Bush retired from Jewish Currents, he started a very little arts zine called “Alte.” And Jewish Renewal uses “elder” and “saging” (as in sage).
I don't mind elderly. It's accurate. If elder is OK what's wrong with elderly. I think it should be rehabilitated along with elder. As for saging it's too new agey.

Jewish Renewal is definitely New Agey.
Maybe elderly feels a little cute to me, sort of like saying “old-ish”.
