This is brilliant. I am happy it was in the Village Voice- it's just so good. The village voice- no longer living in or near the city, I did not realize it was still going. My own therapy experiences were a little like yours. And I too got one good one in the end, who actually connected with me and helped me. He had his own problems; his wife was dying and he did not tell me that was why he was so distracted. I have a theory- completely off the top of my head. I think therapists imagine they can transcend the human condition, and are in some sense competing with Buddhism since both of these disciplines emerged at the same time.
